Alfred Lakos (Hungarian - 1870-1961). This rare original oil on canvas work, titled, “The Purim Story” depicts a scene from the Biblical book of Esther. References to Persian architecture provide the backdrop for this scene, in which the righteous Mordechai sits atop a white horse, being led by the evil Haman, as a crowd cheers them along. Patches of bright, regal colors reinforce the lively and active scene, one of the Bible’s most exciting. The artist has captured the distinct joy and celebratory atmosphere of the Purim holiday. Signed by artist on bottom right.
