DuMouchelles’ October 7th sale includes fine pieces from the notable estates of Dr. Ali Esfahani and Dr. John Willard Spellman, PhD, and others from Metro Detroit and the continental United States. Dr. Spellman retired as Head of the Department of Asian Studies, University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He is considered one of the world's foremost scholars on Asian Studies and a cultural expert on the political history of India. In 2013, Dr. Spellman was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal for his human rights, civil liberties, and volunteer work. His collection of important Indian pieces (lots 54-70) most notably include a fabulous 18th century Kerala oil lamp (lot 54) and wood carving of Hindu goddess Kali (lot 61).
